Sponsoring Refugee Families in Afghanistan
Grandma Sabera is a seventy-five year old widow taking care of her daughters and son who have no other means of support. The family fled to escape threats from ethnic military groups during the civil war -- they took refuge in Pakistan. Once the Taliban fell, the family returned to Kabul in hopes of rebuilding their lives. The eldest daughter, Naseema, suffers from a mental disorder and has kidney problems. Sadly, the family is not able to financially get the money needed to treat Naseema's health concerns, which have worsened from living in the harsh conditions of refugee camps for many years. "Since I was a kid, and as I have grown up as an adult, I have found my family living under tents and now in this dark room of an old house of Koti Sangi," said Naseema.
