Development for Peace in Sulu In December 2003, Asia America Initiative Director Al Santoli returned to the Philippines to continue the medical aid component of the Development for Peace in Sulu program and initiate assistance to regional schools. Mr. Santoli delivered emergency medical supplies worth approximately $250,000 retail. Computers and educational materials were also provided to a local daycare center, Mohammad Tulawie Central Elementary School, a madrasa (theological Islamic school) on the outskirts of Jolo, and to Mindanao State University.

Students at Mindanao State University discuss their concerns with Mr. Santoli. The campus has more than four thousand undergraduate students. However, the college library contains less than two hundreds books. Including the new computer, donated by API, the computer lab has only five working computers and two working printers, both contributed by Mr. Santoli.
