In Marawi City, Lanao Sur Province, AAI’s Albert Santoli and Rohaniza Sumndad inaugurate the Gardens of peace program, in partnership with the U.N. World Food Program. The AAI team distributed vegetable and flower seeds donated by the Burpee Seed Company in the US and the International Relief and Development organization to five model schools and five model farming cooperatives.

 
The AAI Gardens of Peace program is intended to bring communities together and create a positive environment, as well as enhance nutrition in areas of armed conflict.

 
The AAI Gardens of Peace Program in Central Mindanao in Christian and Muslim areas is a component of the expanded Development for Peace program, which was originally conducted in the Sulu archipelago. Education is a central component, with AAI contributing books donated by college students in Manila.

The AAI team meet with the head of a local village defense militia in Pikit, North Cotabato, in an area where MILF raiders, mostly between the ages of 12 to 19 years, burned down a number of homes causing substantial displacement of families.

 
In Pikit, North Cotabato, AAI is assisting local officials, the Red Cross and other NGOs in providing funding for blue plastic to make temporary shelter for refugee families camped in muddy open fields during monsoon rains.
